why is my 1993 mercury sable bucking? any ideas?

the car is a auto.3.8L ,idles fine ,all fuids are topped off.But after driving about 3 miles it just starts hesitating bucking. If it was a manual trans.i'd think i didn't have it in the correct gear. any ideas before i call the junk yard? thanks.

If this is happening as you come to a stop, it may be the vehicle is not dis-engaging from overdrive as you slow down. If it is just a random thing under acceleration, I would check the fuel filter, thats an inexpensive fix and a good place to start.

one question- Does the car run if you let the car sit idle for a few minutes.
maybe there isn't enough fuel getting to the engine. Caused by a faulty pump or a partially clogged fuel line. sounds like when the engine is idling enough fuel gets to engine but once you push the accelerator the partial clog causes the engine to stall. Or not enough air is getting to the engine

Before you go to the junk yard, get a quick tune up. The spark plugs could be bad who knows it's a 93. It's probably way overdue for a tuneup.
